reveal

From the catalogue by Bruce W. Ferguson:

"A contemporary photograph is an uncanny object, magical the moment it appears, however logical its origins and legitimate and scientific its emergence. Its appearance spurs many stories rather than logical conclusions.

All anyone has to do is to look at the way in which evidence is used, abused and counterused in a trial to understand the nature of visuality's inherent ambiguities. To see is not to believe but to beguile."

"This paradox is at the center of this exhibition whose title Conceal/Reveal is meant to describe the continual oscillation which is at the center of the works here.

The ideal of the artist becomes a visceral reality as it comes into material manifestation, but in doing so it offers a new source of uncertainty as well.

It obeys this rhythm of revelation followed by concealment, closure opening out onto disclosure all over again, beginning the oscillation of an inevitable swinging of the pendulum.

In this exhibition, we take up this oscillation at the moment of revelation to wonder what is hidden as these illuminations arise."
